Persepolis is the first UNESCO site heritage in Iran with ChogaZanbil and may be the main tourist attraction in this country which is located 64 km from Shiraz.
The name Persepolis is in fact, the Greek name given to the place by Alexander and his army which means the city of Persians.
For visiting this ancient site dating back to about 2500 years ago, there are different routes.
If you are staying in Shiraz, drive for an hour toward the north and you will reach Persepolis after Marvdasht.
But if you want to visit the site on your way from Yazd to Shiraz, we suggest you leave Yazd earlier to be able to visit two other Achamanian UNESCO sites, Pasargada and Necropolis on your way. In this case, you will have the chance to see the beautiful sunset over the hills in Persepolis.
As visiting the place will take something between 1 to 3 hrs (based on your interest), don’t forget to use the toilet before buying your ticket. If you don’t need it then, don’t worry! There is another toilet on the other side of the site, after the Treasury Hall.
After visiting all the palaces, we suggest you go up to the hills to enjoy the panoramic view of the site from the tomb of Artaxerxes III.
Pay attention that the first rule of visiting Persepolis is that you are not allowed to take a backpack inside! So just take your camera and a bottle of water and get inside of Persian history.
To get the best from your visit, you can join our tours with experienced guides to get deep into the Achamanian’s glory.
